KenergyAI is pleased to announce the successful launch of our new Event-Based HVAC Optimization software, now live at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). This capability extends our core occupancy-driven approach by connecting directly to existing scheduling and event management systems, allowing buildings to automatically adjust HVAC operation around planned activities rather than relying solely on fixed schedules or real-time occupancy. Special thanks to Austin Eriksson for originating the idea and leading its implementation.

The software reads upcoming events from the building’s scheduling platform and responds intelligently. When a space is expected to remain unused, it widens temperature deadbands to reduce unnecessary conditioning. Ahead of a scheduled event, it begins pre-cooling or pre-heating so the space reaches comfortable conditions before occupants arrive. The result is meaningful energy savings during vacancy periods while maintaining the comfort standards expected during actual use.

Because this is a software-only solution, it integrates with nearly any HVAC system, from large BACnet-enabled building management systems to individual smart thermostats. The primary requirement is access to a scheduling or event system that can share data with our platform. No major hardware upgrades or changes to existing control sequences are needed, which keeps implementation straightforward and low-disruption.
